Compaq Presario V6000 Laptop Computer when it needs reinstallation or recovery and that even if you do not have the original reinstall CD’s that came with it there’s still hope.
Laptop Computer Repair in NH
My Compaq Presario V6000 wouldn’t bootup correctly and I decided to repair it by reinstalling the operating system (Microsoft Windows XP). A fairly easy task for a computer repair technician, but reinstallation of a laptop can be a nightmare for the unsavy computer user as I have learned from on site visits to my New Hampshire and Maine customers. With no Data Backups and no Windows cds it makes for a tough job.
When you have lost your Reinstallation CD and need to reformat the hard disk drive follow these instructions below and you should be golden!
Please note: For those of you with a broken Compaq Presario V6000 that has no recovery or reinstallation disks there is hope.
Manufacturers such as Compaq, for years now have included a backup copy of the windows operating system on the hard drive that makes installing a backup copy of your Windows Software quick and easy…Thanks HP!
If you have not altered the original hard disk drive then you should have a system partition usually labeled “D:\”.
During Bootup screen hit the F11 key and follow instructions. This will reinstall your operating system (usually Windows XP Home edition w/ Service Pack 2) and reinstall all of the original drivers and software that came with your PC from the factory.
How easy was that?

When I tried to log on to my computer, a message saying “there are not sufficient resources to load” my account with the default something-or-other popped up. The box had a timer that was going to close the window, and then when it closed it would not log me on. I could not turn it off normally so I cut the power. When I turned it back on I logged on fine?
I read here PC Repair but couldnt make sense?

I have laptop Compaq Presario V6000. After inputting restore CD into my computer, the computer displays menu for either Recovery, Format, or Quit the menu. Eventually I choose Format since I need my computer to be restored to factory settings. After that, few windows pop-up, and when it gets to the window where computer partitions the drive it is where the computer doesn’t perform a task. At first I waited few minutes then restarted and tried to wait more than few minutes. I cannot wait hours because it would be abnormal for Compaq Presario V6000 to take so long to partition the drive. I would like to know if there is something that can be done to complete formatting of my laptop. I would appreciate your help. Thank you in advance!

Actually i re-format before my laptop but i can’t find my recovery disc anymore. Can i still re-format this one without therecovery disc. Can i still press F11? Please. Thanks

Yes you may try f-11. As long as you left the recovery partition installed on the original hard drive formatting the windows partition does not affect the other partition.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been struggling all summer trying to do a recovery on this Laptop. All the other directions I found online were long and complicated before when I searched on HP’s website. Your directions were so simple and worked the 1st time with no problems.

i have compaq presario v6000 with windows XP home edition if i am creating recovery disk it shows error 12. What does error 12 mean when attempting to create recovery disks for a v6000 laptop? I’ve looked everywhere on the internet even at HP for some help but it is so hard to find answers to the dreaded error 12. I was hoping you might be able to help.
